The train followed the Moose River for part of the trip and turned around in Big Moose, NY, the summit of the line. Some places, such as the Moose River Trading Co. in Thendara, had “Moose” in their name. The conductor told us we might see bears or deer during the trip. “What about moose?” one passenger asked. “You’re too far south to see moose,” the conductor answered. I guess things were different at one time and somebody saw at least one big moose.
